Wound app
Description:
The Wound App is installed on a District nurse's tablet or smart phone; it uses artificial intelligence to convert the device into a piece of equipment that scans a patient's wound and assesses wound condition regarding if it is healing, necrotic, or granulating. Prior to this, paper notes and a tape measure were used to report on wounds.
Barriers:
Funding for continued use of the App beyond the pilot stage. District nurses having time and support to learn to use the App.
Enablers:
Tissue viability nurses are able to access a portal and give opinions on the wound, which is reducing the timescale for patient management. The app helps to standardise practice.
Outcomes for patient:
Prompt care for patients in their home. District nurses can show patients the progress of their wound, which promotes patient wellbeing and wound healing. Data from the App highlights patient support needs, for example, patients at higher risk of burns will receive preventative information.
